HOW TO CARE FOR A LONG BEARD: TECHNIQUES, TOOLS AND NECESSARY PRODUCTS
A long beard is a trend: many men still choose to show it off. But for it to be glamorous, it must be groomed.
Let us discover together the techniques, tools and products needed to make it grow thick and healthy and to keep it in proper order!
TECHNIQUES TO CURE A LONG BEARD
First, if you do not have a long beard, you will need to wait 3-4 months for it to grow and let it grow long enough to make it workable for a particular style.
Even if you want a short beard, it is best to let it grow so it is much easier to style to create your favorite look. Trimming the beard too early is a mistake that will take several weeks to fix, so we advise you to be patient.
Besides, if you think you can have a long beard just by growing it, you are wrong. For it to be beautiful and tidy it is necessary to wash, cut and brush it, following some (simple) rules and using ad hoc techniques.
Alberto Brunelleschi, the owner of the Brunelleschi salon, points out: "A long beard must be sanitized daily with water and products usually used to clean the face, otherwise it can become a place of dirt populated by bacteria. Then you have to wash it 2-3 times a week, keep it hydrated, brush it to keep it tidy and maintain its shape and use very light, high-quality oils that give shine and softness to the beard".
A clean beard is a good starting point, but for it to be glamorous (and tidy) you need to cut it and define it, to make it smooth.
The procedure can be done by yourself, at home, or in a barber's salon. The latter option should be chosen at least once, to give it a well-designed shape, on which to perform "ordinary maintenance" afterwards.
Finally, to keep the beard long, healthy, thick and without "knots", you must brush it every day with gentle strokes, so as not to tear the hair and not to irritate and/or hurt the skin.
THE TOOLS FOR A TOP LONG BEARD
There are four tools needed to show off a long, well-groomed and healthy beard: razor, scissors, trimmer and shaving brush.
The razor is used to define the shape on the cheeks and above the neck. The choice of the razor is very personal, depending on whether you prefer an electric razor, freehand or a shavette, just choose what helps you make the cut more precise.
Scissors should be used to shorten and/or even out the beard so that it is even and tidy.
The trimmer or beard trimmer, on the other hand, as the name itself reveals, allows you to adjust it over the entire surface of the face, ensuring a precise and "hole proof" effect.
For an optimal result we would like to recommend the GBS line, in particular ABSOLUTE FINISH, ideal for cutting beard and hair, ensuring perfect trimming and precise cuts thanks to the T Blade Big stainless-steel blade and the 4 guide combs supplied.
Finally, remember the shaving brush: choose a brush with delicate bristles, keep the beard clean and avoid the build-up of knots, without stressing the hair or skin underneath.
THE INDISPENSABLE PRODUCTS FOR A LONG BEARD
In order to keep a long beard clean, soft and healthy and to avoid stress on the skin, it is necessary to use special products.
For deep cleansing that is done 2 or 3 times a week, specific barber shampoos are preferred, as they have a softer composition than traditional shampoos, and beard conditioner, which is used to moisturize and protect the skin. It should not be confused with normal liquid conditioners as it has a firmer, wax-like texture.
To show off a silky beard without knots and/or tangles, beard oil is essential. The latter should be applied with the fingers on the damp beard, with downward movements and the tip of the chin, after having "warmed" it on the hands. It moisturizes both hair and skin and prevents itching.
